Founder's Day Celebration in New York - Come From Away
|
What better way to celebrate Western's Founder's Day than in the company of fellow Western alumni and friends. Join us for a reception at the Glass House Tavern for appetizers, drinks and great conversation. A cash bar will be available. In addition, alumni also have the opportunity to attend a performance of Come From Away at the Schoenfeld Theatre, first conceived by Western alumni, Michael Rubinoff, BA'98, LLB'01. In addition, the role of Beulah Cooper is played by Astrid Van Wieren, BA' 88. The show recently closed in Toronto, breaking box office records, and will be the fifth Canadian musical in history to bow on Broadway. Michael will share thoughts and reflections on the extraordinary journey of the show from conception to Broadway with a stop at the Gander Community Centre Hockey Arena along the way. It is a rare opportunity to hear a few behind the scenes stories of one of the most anticipated new musicals this Broadway season. Tickets are $80 USD for Orchestra 1 seating and $60 USD for Orchestra 2 seating. Tickets will be distributed at the reception. This is significant savings of at least $75 per ticket compared to regular price. All transactions will be in Canadian dollars. Pricing is approximate based on exchange rates. Please register online no later than Monday, March 6, 2017. Sorry, no refunds. STORYCome From Away is based on the true story of when the isolated community of Gander, Newfoundland played host to the world. What started as an average day in a small town turned in to an international sleep-over when 38 planes, carrying thousands of people from across the globe, were diverted to Gander’s air strip on September 11, 2001. Undaunted by culture clashes and language barriers, the people of Gander cheered the stranded travelers with music, an open bar and the recognition that we’re all part of a global family. |
